Attachments Help Share Information
Attachments are a powerful feature because they allow you to share additional information with an individual or an entire group at once. When we think about attachments, we usually think about documents or images. However, there are certain times when it’s much easier to attach another email to an email for someone.
Sometimes, forwarding a message as an attachment allows you to share detailed information with another coworker or friend. Also, attaching messages allows you to share an entire chain of emails with a new recipient, not just a single correspondence. Sharing all of this information as an attachment can save you time but also give someone else all the data they need.
How To Attach An Email To An Email
Most of us know how to email a Google doc to another person. However, many of us don’t know how to send another message to someone. There are lots of times when it’s easier to just send an attachment to someone else, especially if it’s something you’d like to delegate or share so the other person has all the information they need to deal with what’s in the message.
Unfortunately, the methods for attaching items to a new message aren’t the same across every mail provider, so you need to know how to attach an email to an email based on the client you use.
How to attach an email in Gmail
In Gmail, you can attach messages as .eml files without even downloading them to your device. However, because of the Gmail attachment size limit, any attachments over 25MB will be attached as a Google Drive file.
There are also different ways of attaching emails, depending on if you’re using Gmail via the web or mobile app.
How to attach via the web
On the web, you can both forward a message as an attachment and reply to a message with an attached email.
To forward a message as an attachment:
- Open your Gmail inbox via your preferred web browser.
- Select the messages you want to share with someone.
- Choose More → Forward as an Attachment.
- Add the recipients you want into To, CC, and/or BCC.
- Add a subject line and anything else needed into the message’s body.
- Once everything is set up, press Send.
To reply and attach emails in Gmail:
- Open your Gmail inbox.
- Open the item you want to respond to and select Reply.
- At the top right, click the Pop Out Icon. This will move the message into a small box and allow you to still navigate your inbox.
- From the inbox, find the message you want to add as an attachment.
- Drag it into the Pop Out box to attach.
- Once everything is set up, press Send.

Attaching Emails In Apple Mail Client (on Mac and on iPhone)
In Apple Mail, there is no easy way to attach an email to an email on iPhone or your Mac. Instead, all you can really do in Apple Mail is forward emails to someone else to share them.
Clean Email Can Make Attachment Emails Easier To Find
Although Clean Email can't help you attach to email as it is not an email client, it can help you clean up and organize your inbox so that you can find, attach, and send emails more efficiently. In fact, Clean Email is the perfect email manager app to run alongside all IMAP mail providers, such as Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, iCloud, and more.
With Smart Views, all of your messages are organized into smaller bundles based on various criteria. For example, you can select and skim through messages that have been in your inbox for more than a year and decide if you really need to keep them. Or, you can shift through items that you received undeliverable notifications for and use these to remove inactive mail addresses from your contact list.
Additionally, this feature makes it easy for you to locate messages with large attachments, so you can keep up with a chain related to emails you previously added email attachments to.
Also, the Unsubscriber feature helps you clear out the clutter by removing you from newsletters and promotional emails you don't wish to receive. This is one of those email management best practices that we often don’t have time to do manually, but Clean Email makes it possible with just a few clicks.
Finally, the Auto Clean feature can make your life easier by automating any routine email tasks. You can use this to automatically send certain messages with mail attachments into dedicated folders, mute an email from a certain sender, and more.
