Pinned Messages
The Pinned Messages list allows you to make sure that some messages are never matched by any rule and no action is ever applied to them. These messages are “protected” from all actions in Clean Email.
⚠️ Attention: The Pinned Messages list only works in Clean Email. You will still be able to see, remove, and modify these messages using other email applications.
Pinned messages only appear on the Pinned page in Clean Email. When a message is pinned, Clean Email does not display that message in your inbox, in the 'All Messages' Smart Folder, or in any other Smart Folders.

Protecting Messages to or from a Specific Sender via Sender Settings
When viewing other Smart Folders, you can protect messages from a sender via the advanced Sender Settings dialog. To do this, select the sender’s message group. Then, in the preview pane on the right, click the triple dot button under the quick Sender Settings actions.
The advanced Sender Settings dialog appears. Click More… at the bottom of the window.
In the Pinned section at the bottom of the dialog, click to toggle the radio button(s) for the desired option(s).
- To automatically pin all messages received from the sender, enable the toggle labeled Pin messages from.
- To automatically pin all messages you have sent to the sender, enable the toggle labeled Pin messages sent to.
When you pin messages via the advanced Sender Settings dialog, Clean Email automatically creates an entry for the sender’s email address on the Pinned tab of the Preferences page.
Managing Whose Messages Are Pinned
You can control whose messages are pinned via the Preferences page.
Click your email address at the top left corner and then click Preferences from the account menu.
In the Preferences window, click the Pinned tab.
Adding Email Addresses to Pinned Messages
To add one or more specific email addresses to the list of pinned messages, click the Pin messages from field. Enter the email address of each sender whose messages you want to pin. Press Enter on your keyboard to add a carriage return after each email address entered, and click Save when you are finished.
Protecting Messages from Friends, Family, and Coworkers
If you have defined groups of your friends, family, or workers on the Sender Groups tab of Preferences, you can quickly and easily toggle on or off the pinned status for each of those groups. When the pinned status is toggled on, Clean Email automatically pins all messages received from all addresses defined in the group.
In the illustration below, messages from the Friends group are pinned, while messages from the Family and Coworkers groups are not pinned.
You can click the link below each group to jump to the Sender Groups tab and manage the addresses in the group.
Protecting Messages Sent to Specific Addresses
To configure Clean Email to automatically pin all messages that you send to specific addresses, enter the addresses in the Pin Messages Sent To field.
Press Enter on your keyboard to create a carriage return after each address, and click Save when you are finished.
Protecting Messages in Specific Folders or Labels
To protect messages in specific folders or labels, simply click to select the checkbox next to each folder or label whose messages you want to protect, in the Pin messages labeled… section. All messages contained in the select folder(s) or label(s) are automatically pinned.
Protecting All Messages Sent or Received in a Specific Time Frame
To protect all messages sent or received recently–in a specific time frame–click to enable the Pin recent messages toggle.
Once you have turned this on, you can click the drop-down and select the desired time frame. All messages sent and received during the selected time frame will be pinned automatically.
Once a message reaches an age older than the specified time frame, Clean Email automatically removes the pinned status from that message.
For example, if you select 3 days, a message received today will be pinned for the next three days. In four days from now, that message will no longer be pinned.
Unpinning Messages
If you decide to unpin certain messages, you can do this via the Pinned tab of the Preferences page.
Click your email address at the top left corner and then click Preferences from the account menu.
In the Preferences window, click the Pinned tab.
On the Pinned tab, you can adjust the settings that triggered the messages to be pinned.
For example, you might delete an email address from the Pin messages from field, and click Save.
Or, you might clear the checkbox that you had previously selected to pin all messages in a certain folder or label.
Once you have unpinned the messages, they will be subject to all other Clean Email rules and processes, and they will once again appear in each applicable Smart Folder.
