Cleaning Suggestions
To help you get the most out of Clean Email and keep your mailbox clean, Clean Email presents Cleaning Suggestions to you in various convenient locations throughout the application.
Clean Email analyzes messages that are frequently deleted or archived, based on aggregated data such as:
- sender addresses
- subject lines
- number of attachments
- size of attachments
- message age
Clean Email can make suggestions based on similar messages that you have previously cleaned, or based on similar messages that are frequently cleaned by other Clean Email users.
📌 Note: In accordance with Clean Email’s strict privacy policy, your individual messages are never analyzed by Clean Email staff or shared with other users. Rather, Clean Email’s algorithms create these suggestions automatically using anonymous statistical data collected based on the message senders and subjects of frequently cleaned messages.
Cleaning Suggestions provides you with shortcuts to clean these messages quickly and easily.

Accessing Cleaning Suggestions
The Home page in Clean Email includes a shortcut to Cleaning Suggestions.
You can also access Cleaning Suggestions via the Suggestions button in the left-hand navigation menu.
In addition, Clean Email presents relevant Cleaning suggestions at the top of applicable Smart Folders, including the Inbox folder.
The number of suggestions for the selected folder appears to the right of the Suggestions heading. You can click > or < to scroll through the list of suggestions…
…or click Hide to collapse the contents of the Suggestions section.
If you do not want Clean Email to offer any suggestions for the selected folder again, click the X to dismiss all suggestions for the folder.
A message will appear, prompting you to confirm that you want to dismiss all suggestions.
📌 Note: Clicking Confirm removes the suggestions from the folder and prevents Clean Email from offering those specific suggestions in any of the locations where Cleaning Suggestions appear. It does not affect any messages.
If you decide to clean a similar message in the future, Clean Email may offer the same suggestion again after that.
Taking Actions Based on Cleaning Suggestions
Each suggestion provides a very specific description of the selection criteria and the suggested action. In the example illustration below, Clean Email suggests moving a group of messages from the UI sender from the inbox to the trash.
To quickly and easily accept the suggestion, click the corresponding button below, or click the drop-down for more options. To continue the example above, you could click Trash to move the group of messages to the trash as suggested, or click the drop-down for a list of additional actions.
For more information about each of the actions available, please see Actions Clean Email Supports.
If you decide you don’t want to clean the suggested messages, simply click the dismiss icon to dismiss the suggestion. Clean Email will not suggest the action again.
📌 Note: If you frequently see the same or similar suggestions, Clean Email can save you time by preventing those messages from being delivered to your inbox. To clean these messages automatically, consider adjusting Sender Settings for the senders, or Unsubscribing if the messages are associated with a mailing list. Or, for complex cleaning scenarios, advanced users can create Auto Clean rules.
Previewing Suggested Message Groups
To view a preview of the messages contained in a suggestion group, click anywhere in the message group. The preview pane appears on the right-hand side of the window.
At the top of the preview pane, you can see whether the suggestion is based on similar messages that you have previously cleaned, or based on similar messages frequently cleaned by all Clean Email users.
To help you identify which messages are in the suggestion group, the preview pane displays details such as sender address, message date, and a description for each message.
At the bottom of the preview pane, a dynamic action bar appears; the first button that appears depends on the action suggested by Clean Email. Other buttons let you take additional actions on all messages in the group. In the illustration below, the suggestion is to Trash the messages, so the first button in the action bar is the Trash button.
For more information on the other available actions, please see Actions Clean Email Supports.
