Definition
💡 A dynamic email is an interactive message that automatically updates its content based on real-time data, user behavior, profile, or preferences. Unlike static emails, dynamic ones can display personalized information such as current deals, live inventory updates, personalized product recommendations, and interactive elements like carousels or forms.
Dynamic emails are more engaging and relevant to the recipient, making them more likely to interact and convert (or take your preferred call-to-action, like clicking a link or buying a product).
Example
Some common examples of dynamic emails include:
- Countdown timers for upcoming sales, i.e., Black Friday, or showing when the promo is going to end.
- Abandoned cart emails that display products left in the cart ("Don't forget your items in the cart"). They usually offer a discount or free shipping to entice the user to complete their purchase.
- An email that shows different calls to action depending on the location or type of device, e.g., iPhone or Android, in the United States or overseas.
- Order confirmation emails that display personalized information about the customer's order, such as estimated delivery date and related products they may be interested in.
- Re-engagement emails that use real-time data to match the recipient's recent actions, e.g., new deals or promotions related to products they previously viewed.
What is dynamic email content?
Dynamic email content contains customizable elements that automatically adjust based on the recipient's data, behavior, or real-time information. This can include personalized greetings (with your actual name), product recommendations based on past purchases, location-specific offers, or live updates such as weather forecasts or event countdowns.
Marketers typically use dynamic email content to deliver a more tailored and impactful experience. Think of those highly relevant and engaging emails that speak to you and your specific recipients' needs and preferences (sometimes to the point that you wonder whether the sender knows you.)
What is dynamic email in Gmail?
Dynamic email in Gmail allows users to interact with content directly within the message. It is also called AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) technology to create a more engaging and interactive experience.
Dynamic emails in Gmail can have both static and dynamic content. These messages can update in real time, ensuring that recipients see the most current information or offers available, like comments or changes made in a Google Doc.
How to use dynamic email in Gmail
To enable or disable dynamic emails on Gmail, follow the steps below:
- Sign in to your Google Admin console. Sign in using an administrator account, not your current account.
- In the Admin console, find Menu → Apps → Google Workspace → Gmail → User settings.
- Tap Dynamic email, then check or uncheck the Enable dynamic email box to enable or disable Dynamic email.
- Click Save.
The change can happen quickly but give it up to 24 hours.
When you receive dynamic emails, you can complete tasks without leaving your Gmail message. Perform actions such as RSVPing to events, filling out forms, browsing product catalogs, or responding to comments directly within the email.
