Help and Support for CleanEmail

Step by Step Guide to get started with Clean Email

This guide will help you get started and understand basics of Clean Email.

First, you need to connect Clean Email to your mailbox. No need to worry – we are very concerned with your security and privacy and will never use this access for anything outside our core features. Our approach to your security and privacy is explained right on our homepage and you can read our full privacy policy.

Once connected, Clean Email will "index" (analyze the headers) of all emails in your mailbox. This process is usually quick but if you have tens or hundreds of thousands of emails it might take some time. It's safe to close Clean Email and let it continue in background – we will let you know when the scan is done and you can come back to start working with your mailbox.

Clean Email uses "smart rules" to analyze emails, making it easy to go through your mail in minutes. Instead of presenting your mailbox as folders or labels we find emails matching rules like "Travel", "Finance", "Social notifications", "Subscriptions and Newsletters" etc and organize your mail by date, size, senders and recipients, and other factors.

As a result you can easily see emails across all folders or labels and act on them (delete, label, move etc) as groups eliminating the need to go through them one by one. This approach helps you quickly find old and large emails or remove or archive all emails in a folder or label with a single click.

Emails matched by a rule can be grouped by Sender, Labels (or Folders), Time, Size, or Recipients to help you narrow down your selection.

Emails grouped by Time

For example, you can see your top senders grouped and ordered by "Time" and easily delete biggest buckets of emails from years ago. Or group emails by "Labels":

Important emails matched by a rule
1,383 emails labeled as "Important", 709 of those are unread and 28 are starred

For more details about Rules and Groups see our dedicated support article or check out all types of emails Clean Email recognizes.

Clean Email makes it easy to take action on all emails within a group (or multiple groups at once). You can apply any action to any number of emails and Clean Email will easily handle this – all actions are performed in the background and you don't need to have your email client or Clean Email running for all the actions to be applied. Whether you are deleting a single email or a 1,000 or moving 100,000 everything will work smoothly. For the full list of actions you can apply please see a dedicated article.

Quick Clean

To make it easier for you to get started we've combined a few rules and actions under "Quick Clean". Quick Clean will present you with rules and actions users like you applied to their mailboxes and you can get everything done with a single click.

Smart Unsubscribe and Block

For some emails simply removing them is not enough – noisy marketing emails and alike are filling our inboxes at the unprecedented rate. For cases like those we've implemented Smart Unsubscribe and Block features. Instead of trying to unsubscribe you from every newsletter and marketing email Clean Email will keep track of new emails coming to your mailbox and automatically move them to trash or remove them completely. You can also setup Clean Email to send you a summary of all emails it tracked which allows you to review and recover them later.

Automation – making sure your mailbox stays clean

Clean Email provides you with an easy way to clean your mailbox but making sure it stays clean is just as important. For every action you apply you can choose to apply it to matching emails in the future so you don't have to spend time on repeating the same process over and over again. Clean Email will work in the background ensuring that your mailbox is in the perfect shape.
